Cafe 22

8

I really appreciate Cafe 22’s consistent hours of 9am – 8pm six days a week. Easy to remember and helps avoid the disappointment of looking forward to a treat, only to realize that the beloved destination is closed Mondays, opens randomly at a later time during the week, or closes at 3pm on a Friday etc. Hmm, maybe that just happens to me because lazy me often “forgets” to check hours. It is also nice to be able to have lunch food for dinner! I will take a panini & salad over steak & potatoes any day.

Y and I headed over to Cafe 22 on a Friday night. It was Ashtanga Yoga with Asia Nelson, then Grilled Paninis with Asia Gasior. Yoga Asia is awesome. I would not have known about Panini Asia without her recommendation. Shame on me for not knowing about the lovely new addition to our Uptown Waterloo family!

Unlike other stores on King Street, you gotta trot up a flight of stairs to get to Cafe 22. Get ready to be engulfed into a different world of modern European romance.

First Impression:

Large glass windows overlooking King street.

There was soft calming music playing in the background.

Stunning decor.

And very empty. I hope the lunch crowd is better. This place is a gem!

Two glass displays. One had the desserts while the other showed-off fresh ingredients used.

On the Table for Maple:

  1. Grilled Chicken Basil Pesto ($7.80) with a side of Spinach Salad ($4.50)
  2. Uptown Panini ($7.80) with a side of Soup ($4.50)
  3. Americano ($2.50) & Latte ($3.20)
  4. Chocolate Pecan Tart ($3)

Call me superficial, but I cannot resist pretty food.

Uptown Panini is filled with grilled chicken breast, oven roasted tomatoes, aged chedder, arugula and mayo.

Grilled Chicken Basil Pesto has roasted red peppers, arugula, brie and mayo.

Unfortunately, our panini(s) got cold before we got to them as the soup & salad were too delicious to stop midway. Y noted that though their panini combinations are not unique, they are classic and Cafe 22 executed them perfectly.

I insisted on dessert. We shared a sweet, warm Chocolate Pecan Tart.

Asia was so sweet. She created more dishes for herself by splitting it for us!

Now now, no fighting! Each person gets half. :)

We felt bad for coming in so late and lingering past 8pm. Appreciate Asia’s gracious service.

Simply gorgeous.

Bon Appetit.

Verdict:

1) $ – Cafe fare but substantial meal
2) Romantic European decor
3) Graceful service, very personable owner
4) Excellent soup, salad, sandwich
